Dr. Meredith E. Basil serves as an Associate Dean at Stanford University, where she leads the Academic Advising and Student-Athlete Success & Well-Being teams. A former Division I diver and coach, her career is defined by a commitment to the intersection of elite performance and holistic student-athlete development. Within the classroom at Stanford, she teaches the course Designing Your Student-Athlete Experience, helping students navigate their dual roles with intentionality. Prior to her leadership at Stanford, she served as Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at California State University, Fullerton. Her extensive administrative background includes overseeing internal operations, Title IX, and sport performance, alongside interim roles as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and service on the Faculty Senate.
An active educator and researcher, Dr. Basil also teaches courses in Sport Psychology at Menlo College, as well as the Biological Basis of Behavior, Psychopharmacology, and Substance Use and Addiction at Palo Alto University. Her diverse research background spans NIDA-funded addiction projects and behavioral toxicology for the EPA. More recently, her work has focused on models of athletic intelligence, investigating how biological factors—including prenatal hormone markers—and experiential variables influence individual differences in spatial ability.
