Born and bred in West Hartford, Connecticut and educated (undergraduate) at the University of Rochester and Cornell University, Dr. Charles Adelberg focused on how investment in emerging technology companies takes place in markets where investors acquire partial property rights to the outcomes of ongoing research being pursued by such start-ups. Working in international settings such as the Desert Research Institute in Israel and domestic settings such as the Headquarters of the Minnesota Community College System, Dr. Adelberg studied the effect of technology on local employment opportunities in emerging biotechnology companies in agricultural as well as in medical applications. For 25 years, Dr. Adelberg led a team of US government economists who studied when and where valuable new technology and related applications emerged in either in US based or foreign based multinational companies having operations in Silicon Valley. Adelberg’s team recommended the specific amount paid in taxes each company should pay to the U.S. government versus to a foreign jurisdiction. Amounts correlated with the multinational’s operational site that featured the most value added to the product or processes being sold to customers worldwide. At Menlo College, Dr. Adelberg is looking forward to finally having the opportunity to teach the same group of students during a full two-semester principles of economics course. This curriculum is specially tailored to prepare students for several upper-level classes in both in business and psychology.*
*Dr. Adelberg in coordination with a professor in finance, had the Menlo Faculty Senate approve this full year sequence in the principles of economics that will start with all such classes in the Fall of 2026.
