Student Spotlight: Greig O’Connor ‘13

Growing up in Newark, California, Greig O’Connor never imagined that he would one day be representing the Polynesian population at one of Silicon Valley’s finest business schools. Upon graduating with honors from Newark Memorial High School in 2009 as Athlete of the Year Greig was recruited for football by Menlo College. Greig quickly fell in love with the Menlo community, campus landscape, and its idyllic location. Though starting his college education with a liberal arts major in mind, Greig found that Business Marketing was the area that he wished to pursue.

An accomplished athlete, Greig was a four-year starter for the Menlo College Football team as defensive lineman. He was named Daktroniks Academic All American for two consecutive years and was honored at the 2012 All-American Bowl. Off the field, Greig stayed involved in Residential Life as Head Resident Assistant, for which he received the Terry Welton Award as RA of the Year. He also served as Hawai’i Club President for three years, leading Menlo’s Hawaiian Community in the production of the annual Lu’au, the College’s largest student-organized event.

After graduation Greig has accepted a position as a Placement and Referral Officer at the Windsor Nursing Facility in Fremont. In the future he plans to pursue a career in Event Marketing and will be returning to graduate school at Notre Dame de Namur University in August 2013 to earn his MBA.

“The Menlo College experience was a pure blessing. I am mentally, physically, and socially prepared for challenges that may be coming my way,” said Greig. “I wish my fellow graduates the best of luck in their future and I encourage them to never stop pursuing their dreams and to be all they can.”
