On March 24, San Mateo County Health Services conducted Silver Dragon V, an annual emergency drill. This exercise tests the distribution of life saving medical supplies to the public in a timely manner in case of an emergency. A group of Menlo College students participated with a drill on campus, and joined the Atherton Disaster Preparedness Team (ADAPT) in the local community. Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and the San Mateo Coastside Medical Reserve Corps (SMC MMRC) went door-to-door at various locations throughout the county delivering kitchen fire safety information.

“After the tragedies in Japan, I am proud that Menlo is working with The Town of Atherton and The San Mateo County Health Services in getting prepared for any disaster,” said Hanna Malak, President of the Menlo College Student Government Association. Menlo College is the only educational institution in the area from Half Moon bay to Palo Alto that is participating in this drill.

“We are grateful to Menlo Park Fire Department for collaborating with the County to involve Menlo College in this innovative exercise today,” said Yasmin Lambie-Simpson, Dean of Student Affairs. “Our student participation in distributing information in the Atherton neighborhoods is so timely given what is going on in Japan.”
