Sports Fans’ Delight – The Menlo Advantage Summer 2016 issue

The Menlo Advantage Summer 2016 issue is a treasure trove for athletes and fans of the Menlo athletics community. A special section entitled “Perfecting the Student-Athlete Model” offers inspiration and unique perspectives from coaches, sports aficionados, alumni, faculty, staff and fans.

There is something for everyone in this issue, including an imaginary perch at a dining table with Frida Kahlo, and a report of an authors roundtable conversation with renowned Bay Area wine writers. You may want to linger over an article about a new ethics book, revisit Greek classics, or take in election commentary by one of our political science professors.

Alumni news includes a feature on one family with six Menlo grads, an alumnus appointed to a knighthood, and an alumna poetry therapist who heals with words. To connect with Menlo alumni, plan to participate in the October 28-29, 2016 “OAKtoberFest” two-day extravaganza on the Menlo College campus.

Also in the Menlo Advantage Summer 2016 issue, read about how one of our students created a distribution service for the needy with surplus food from our cafeteria, how other students turned sustainability education into a game, and how our first delegation to an international career development conference came home with top awards.

Whether it’s the captain of the softball team who set up a successful online crowd-funder for opponents who fell upon hard times; our wrestlers who will shine in the Olympic Team Trials; or the obstacles faced by one of our soccer players, there are stories that will hold your attention, and touch your heart.

Read the story on Commencement 2016, and learn about the honors received by our top students. To coin the headline of the story about our student who revived the Menlo student online newspaper, this is an issue “above the fold.” Don’t miss it!
