California Politics class with guest speaker Assemblyman Richard Gordon.

Joe Simitian, a State Senator serving California's 11th Senate District in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz Counties, will visit Menlo College on Thursday, October 20 to speak to students about his experiences as an elected official. The event, which will be held in Florence Moore Hall, room 316, begins at 9:40 a.m.

This is the second in a series of meetings with political figures scheduled for political science professor Melissa Michelson’s California Politics (POL 482) class. Last week, students had a chance to talk with Assemblyman Richard Gordon about his achievements as legislator and the challenges of his job.

“They bring the course material to life, often with great stories, and add quite a bit to ’real life’ politics that is simply not covered in the textbooks,” said Michelson about the visiting politicians.

This is an open event; anyone wishing to attend should contact Professor Michelson at melissa.michelson@menlo.edu or 650-543-3844.
