Professor Jan Dykstra Scholarship

Professor Jan Dykstra Scholarship

In conjunction with Professor Jan Dykstra’s 90th birthday, a group of Menlo Alumni is pushing to perpetually endow the “Professor Jan Dykstra Scholarship” at $100,000.  Professor Dysktra was a fixture in the Language and Social Science departments from 1963 through his retirement in 1996 and continues to mentor, tutor, and advise students today.  Still a campus resident, he attributes his longevity to Menlo’s students.  “It’s all due to the youthful influence of the students,” he says.

Michael Lilly ’66 fondly remembers Professor Dykstra, stating “I remember him conducting lectures at that open air venue many times. He was the only professor while I was there that used it for that purpose. Jan was one of those perfect professors who connected with students – who brought his subject alive and made us want to hear more.”
