Polling Place Opens on Campus

November 7, 2011

Menlo College will host a polling place for the San Mateo County elections on Tuesday, November 8. Voting booths will be located in the Fireside Lounge and open to the public from 7 am to 8 pm on the day of the election.

Menlo had previously hosted a polling place, but in recent years it was moved to the Fire Department. After Melissa Michelson, Professor of Political Science, joined the college two years ago, she contacted the San Mateo County Elections Office and asked them to move the polling place back to the campus.

“It is important for students to be involved in local governments. I want them to see connection of the elections to their everyday life,” said Michelson. “For example, if hotel taxes go up, it will be more expensive for parents to visit students; if parcel tax goes up, the rent will go up.”
