Oaks Giving Spirit Shines in Annual Food Drive

The Menlo College cafeteria was buzzing with activity on Thursday evening as a number of teams and student-athletes got into the holiday spirit at the annual Athletic Department Food Drive. As a whole, Menlo College Athletics contributed an impressive 6,578 total food items which will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank to benefit the local community during this holiday season.

In true competitive spirit, the teams were once again pitted against one another to see who could donate the most cans per rostered athlete. For the third consecutive season, the Menlo College Cheer & STUNT team claimed top billing by donating 2,073 total food items for an average of 103.65 items per student-athlete. Close behind in second place was Women's Basketball with 1,129 total cans for an average of 66.41 per student-athlete. In third place was Baseball with 1,995 total cans, averaging 46.39 per student-athlete and rounding out the top five teams in the competition was wrestling and women's soccer.

“It's always great to see our student-athletes rallying around this annual event to support the local community during the holiday season,” said Menlo College Director of Athletics Keith Spataro. “I'm proud of their efforts in this initiative and in all the service projects they complete throughout the year.”
