Menlo College men’s wrestling team is headed to Des Moines, Iowa for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament, which will take place Thursday, March 1 through Saturday, March 3. The Oaks are bringing twelve players to the tournament this year.

“Our biggest advantage is our experiences. Joey Martinez, the head coach of Menlo men’s wrestling team, was a national champion, so he knows how to prepare these guys for what to expect,” said Dylan Vazzano, Sports Information Director of Menlo College. “He hopes that at least six players can place top four within their own weight classes, so the team will have enough points to reach the top ten.”

The NAIA national champion is the highest honor for college wrestlers and teams. Menlo men’s wrestling team participates in the NAIA tournament every year, and currently is ranked 15th with three players in the top twelve: Angel Garcia being 4thin the 133lb. weight class, Lenny Romero—6thin the in the 285lb. weight class, and Scott Brasil—12th in the 285lb. weight class.
