Kirsten Keith, Mayor of Menlo Park, spoke to Menlo College students as part of the Constitution Day celebration on September 17, 2012. Keith talked about the history of the US constitution and the importance of voting.

“People all over the world are fighting for the right to vote,” said Mayor Keith. “We have fought hard for it here in the US! It is your right; do not take it for granted.”

Keith talked about the origin of some of the amendments in the Bill of Rights, and current global events, such as the Arab Spring, to highlight the significance of the US constitution. Every student who came to the event received a pocket constitution. At the end of the event students had the opportunity to meet the Mayor and ask her questions.
