Senior Hanna Malak received San Mateo County 2011 Mayor’s Diversity Celebration Award for his contributions to the community. Atherton Mayor Jim Dobbie selected Malak as the honoree from Atherton to recognize his hard work as part of the Atherton Disaster and Preparedness Team (ADAPT).

“It’s an honor to be receiving this award. It has been a pleasure representing Menlo College and serving the citizens of Atherton,” said Malak.

In addition to the mayor’s award, Malak also received a Certificate of Appreciation from congresswoman Jackie Speier and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo “in recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community.”

Hanna joined ADAPT as Administrative Coordinator in 2010, since then he has been responsible for networking and communication, educating citizens of Atherton about emergency preparedness, participating in emergency drills, and involving Menlo students in this important community project. He is also the president for Menlo’s Student Government Association, a member of the board of directors for the American Red Cross Northern California Blood Region, and a member of the American Red Cross National Youth Council, responsible for launching youth initiatives and strategic planning.
