First Art Studio Workshop of the Semester

Mass Communication students may remember the Kratt Basement as the secret base for all Mass Communication classes and club activities. Current students will know of it as home to the Menlo Incubation program and the Art Studio.

During the Spring 2011 semester, the Art Studio will be busy with workshops and programs to drive the art culture at Menlo College. The first in this semester's workshop series, dedicated to self portraiture, took place Wednesday, February 9th. The workshop was led by Yasmin Lambie-Simpson, a member of the Art Committee.

Yasmin wanted to leave the self-portraiture as open-ended as possible, with abstract and surrealism more than encouraged and mirrors put away. She especially adored an abstract blazing with colors. But most of all, she wanted to promote the artistic side of all Menlo students.

This workshop was also an opportunity to introduce more students to the Art Studio and its cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Yasmin was excited as she guided me through the cabinets chock-full of pastel, charcoal, water colors, brushes, scrolls of ancient papers and vivid magazines for collages, cloth and large size papers for canvases.

The Art Studio will be open every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm. However, all artistic and highly inspired folks are welcome to expand their creativity there at their own leisure.
