Menlo College welcomes Dr. Kathi J. Lovelace to its faculty as an Assistant Professor of Management. Starting this fall, Dr. Lovelace will teach a class in organizational behavior as well as two courses in Menlo College’s Professional Studies Program, in human resource management and strategic human resources.

“I’m delighted to be joining Menlo College, and look forward to exploring new ways of getting students involved and helping them develop their professional skills,” said Dr. Lovelace. A twenty-year teaching veteran, she believes strongly in active learning and works to design classes so that they add a lot of value for students, from company field trips so students can do some first-hand observation, to encouraging them to write grants for their own research projects. “The knowledge doesn’t come alive until students can apply it themselves,” said Dr. Lovelace.

Most recently, Dr. Lovelace was a lecturer at UC Santa Cruz’s newly formed Center for Entrepreneurship within its School of Engineering, where she taught a course called “Organizational Management for Startups.” She has taught management, human resources management, and organizational behavior courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her primary research interests are: work stress, engagement, and wellness; interdisciplinary pedagogy; and leadership development. Prior to teaching at UC Santa Cruz, she taught at University of Idaho, University of Puget Sound, and Western Washington University.

Dr. Lovelace has an active publishing record and has been published in the Journal of the Academy of Business Education, the Human Resource Management Review, and the Journal of Managerial Psychology. She is on the editorial board of the Academy of Management Learning & Education and is the guest editor for a special issue of the Journal of Management Education, which will be published in February 2012.

After completing a bachelor’s in psychology and an MBA from Western Washington University, Dr. Lovelace earned a Ph.D. in organization studies with a minor in social psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Isenberg School of Management, in Amherst.
