Alum to Wrestle for the Mexican Olympic Team

February 2, 2012

Jesse Ruiz ’09, former member of the Menlo College men’s wrestling team, joined the Mexican Olympic Team last week. He must still wrestle in a qualifying tournament in March for the right to advance to the Olympic Games in London this summer.

“It's truly remarkable,” claimed Menlo College Athletic Director and former head coach of Ruiz, Keith Spataro. “I am overjoyed for Jesse and this amazing honor.  He has made the program and the entire school extremely proud, and I know that we will see him in London this summer.”

Ruiz wrestled for Menlo from 2007 to 2009 in the Heavyweight Division. The Santa Ana, CA native became a National Champion in 2008 and an All-American in 2009.  He credits Menlo College, Spataro, and current men’s wrestling Head Coach Joey Martinez for helping him get to this point in his wrestling career.
