Director of Financial Aid
The position of Director of Financial Aid at Menlo College is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Dean of Enrollment Management. The Director of Financial Aid plans, creates and implements strategic and operational initiatives for the Financial Aid Office, collaborating with the Dean of Enrollment Services, academic units, business services, and other college departments to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of financial aid services for Menlo College students.
The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the direction and coordination of all activities pertaining to the administration of financial aid programs offered at Menlo College, as well as overall responsibility for the general supervision and operation of the Financial Aid Office. The Director of Financial Aid will ensure compliance under all applicable Federal Regulations under Title IV eligibility, California Student Aid Commission in relation to all applicable grant programs. Incumbent works closely with the Dean of Enrollment Management on budgets, strategies for delivery of student financial aid, and the analysis and implementation of appropriate financial aid models. This position maintains close collaboration with the Dean of Enrollment Management to provide strategic initiatives to support enrollment goals of the college, while promoting affordability based on student profiles. The Director of Financial Aid will model excellence in customer service as the foundation for counseling Menlo College students and their families regarding affordability, responsible borrowing, financial literacy, and resources to assist students and their families looking to or currently attending Menlo College. The description of responsibilities below is intended to be descriptive but not necessarily all-inclusive list.
Specific Responsibilities
- Oversees and supervises the personnel and day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office; develops and manages the personnel and operating budget for the office
- Federal Student Aid reports including FISAP, IPEDS, CDS, and participating surveys
- Student communications regarding financial aid processing and timelines
- Responsible for compliance and administration of Federal Student Aid programs including awarding, verification, disbursement, and reconciliation
- As necessary, develops, as well as ensures effective implementation of all procedures and guidelines as they relate to the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid, in accordance with current policies of Title IV and other applicable federal and state agencies, donors, and the College
- Serves as the financial aid liaison to the Business Office and to other Enrollment Management personnel
- Completes all required federal, state and athletic reports in conjunction with other offices
- Monitors the College’s CalGrant eligibility
- Coordinates the engagement with the third-party company that helps reduce federal loan delinquency and default by Menlo College former students
- Counsels students and families on their financial aid options, including federal work study and federal student loans
- Assists students with complaints and appeals about decisions made concerning federal, state, and College policies
- Maintains appropriate records as required by federal and state regulations
- Completes all required surveys in conjunction with other offices
- Other projects and tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree required, masters preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience in financial aid or other related areas of student affairs
- Working knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs, and applicable rules and regulations, verification, awarding, disbursement, and reconciliation processing
- Knowledge and utilization of Title IV regulations
- Familiarity with financial aid office software applications and web-based systems, including PowerFAIDS, Jenzabar, EdConnect, Webgrants, COD and ELM
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
