Salary Range: $175,000–$235,000, DOQ

Executive Summary

The CAO is an entrepreneurial leader tasked with taking Menlo’s advancement efforts to the next level. The primary focus is leading the $100 million comprehensive campaign in anticipation of the College’s 2027 Centennial, with over $60 million already raised.

Key Strategic Responsibilities

  • Campaign Management: Direct all aspects of the multi-year $100M Centennial Campaign, utilizing best practices to expand resources and donor pools.
  • Major/Principal Gift Strategy: Manage an active portfolio of major/principal donors, personally cultivating and closing five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of 5 FTEs (annual fund/grant management, leadership giving, operations, and alumni relations & marketing) to implement data-driven “moves management” and wealth screening.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build deep relationships with alumni, trustees, faculty and staff, parents, and Silicon Valley corporations to realize the College’s mission.
  • Strategic Reporting: While providing oversight of data integrity and system optimization, use databases (Razor’s Edge) and KPIs to analyze donor data and present progress reports to the Board and senior leadership.
  • Communication: Oversee communication with Menlo alumni and other donors through Menlo Magazine and other venues
  • Athletic Compliance: Ensure all Advancement activities adhere to NCAA policies as they relate to Menlo’s robust 15-team varsity athletics program.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • Experience: At least eight years in fundraising with five years of staff supervision, preferably with experience in corporate partnerships and/or navigating the Silicon Valley donor landscape
  • Proven Success: Demonstrated track record in capital campaigns and closing major gifts.
  • Skills: Exceptional communicator with strong presentation skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Values: A relationship builder with a passion for Menlo’s mission of igniting potential in a diverse student body.
  • On-site Presence: Ability to work on-site on the Menlo College campus
  • Travel: Willingness to travel, as needed, to build relationships and implement programs
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credential a plus
