Academic Advisor / Disability Services Specialist

REPORTS TO:  Director of Academic Advising

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, 12-month

POSITION SUMMARY

Menlo College is hiring for the position of Academic Advisor and Disability Services Specialist. Adopting a holistic approach to student development, academic advisors support and mentor students to help them achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. Advisors proactively work with students to help the College achieve its retention and graduation goals.

The Disability Services Specialist coordinates accommodations and services for students with permanent or temporary disabilities to ensure that all Menlo College programs, activities, and services are accessible. The Disability Services Specialist assists in ensuring compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other relevant state and federal legislation. Menlo College is willing to provide training and professional development to the right candidate who may not have a background in disability services.

Academic Advising and Disability Services are part of the Center for Academic and Professional Success (CAPS); and advisors and specialists work collaboratively with other CAPS team members in Career Services, the Internship Program, the Writing and Oral Communication Center, the Math Center, the Peer Tutor and Testing Center, and First-Year Experience Programs. Advising and disability services staff collaborate closely with the Office of the Registrar, Admissions, Athletics, Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced student success professional to apply principles of innovation and continuous improvement to ignite student potential and ensure student success. Depending on experience, opportunities to teach are available.
