SERV

Service Education and Resources for Volunteers

The SERV Program was established in 2000 to instill leadership skills and a sense of social responsibility within Menlo College students while addressing environmental and community needs.

Students who receive a Leadership, President's or Dean's Scholarship are enrolled in the program and must devote at least 15 hours each semester to SERV activities in several categories:

  • Education - English Proficiency, Reading Programs, Tutoring
  • Mentorship - After-School Programs, Sports Activities
  • Health - Blood Drives, Fundraising Walks
  • Social Justice - Food Collections, Clothing Drives
  • Environment - Park Restoration, Recycling

The SERV Office develops a variety of activities for students to participate in, but students may also find other means of fulfilling their commitments. SERV participants are encouraged to match their interests and strengths to a need and work from there. A letter of intention must be submitted to the SERV Office in the Student Union before projects can begin. Letters must contain the following:

  • Name of Organization (if applicable)
  • Name of Supervisor with Contact Information
  • Person(s) Involved in Activity
  • Basic Example of Tasks
  • Hours Intended to Work
  • Category of Service (see above)

Students should check with the SERV Office to verify that a project will qualify for community service credit before taking part in that activity. Credit will only be given to authorized projects.

For more information about the SERV Program, contact Kerilyn Yadai, SERV Coordinator, at 650-543-3943 or kerilynyadao@aol.edom.
