Message from the President

Imagine the Possibilities

In the 1989 movie, Field of Dreams, Ray Kinsella hears a voice that says, "If you build it, [they] will come." We are now there with Menlo College's business school. We're proud that Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and many of our alumni who are outstanding, successful leaders in business and industry are making connections at Menlo College. Add dynamic faculty, and we have the cornerstone for centers of innovative thought and exchange now being developed at Menlo College, Silicon Valley's Business School. Not only can our students thrive in this environment, but also we've seized exciting opportunities to foster partnerships that help the growth of the College as well as the community-at-large.

I'm pleased to announce that Gary Kremen, inventor, executive, and founder of Match.com among other companies, will be the Chair of our new Business Advisory Board for Menlo's Center for Entrepreneurship. With more than 20 years experience in the high-tech, dot.com industry, Mr. Kremen knows first-hand how to seek out and successfully use venture capital to move original ideas forward. We look forward to bringing his leadership and insight to the College.

Our Center for Financial Literacy launched LIFT (LEARN AND INVEST FOR TOMORROW) in partnership with Citi. Aimed at improving the knowledge of financial resources and services for local, low-moderate income high school students and Menlo College coeds, LIFT is ably steered by our center's director, Donna Little, Professor of Accounting.

Because we are located in Silicon Valley where innovation is a constant, we are proud to be both an academic and a community resource. Menlo College is a place where future best business practice is studied and nurtured, and we offer an open invitation to the tremendous talent base within and around us to participate in the dialog and to contribute new ideas.

At the center of our philosophy is our encouraging students to imagine possibilities and make them realities, instead of hoping opportunities will happen to come along. As we welcome new and returning students this month, we are delighted that the business connection at Menlo College is about identifying skills and sparking curiosity so that expertise and opportunity never far away.

Imagine a possibility, and make it happen!
