Dr. Sam Langsdale is a California convert, having arrived in the Bay Area in 2020. Prior to her move, she worked as faculty in the Philosophy Department at the University of North Texas for five years. She was fortunate enough to complete both her M.A. and her Ph.D., and to work as a Senior Teaching Fellow, at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, England from 2009-2015.
Dr. Langsdale’s research focuses on the cultural politics around representations of gender, sexuality, and race in visual culture. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society, and in her award-winning book Searching for Feminist Superheroes: Gender, Sexuality, and Race in Marvel Comics (UT Press, 2024). In addition to serving as Adjunct Faculty at Menlo College, Dr. Langsdale oversees the Course Tutoring program and the Writing Center in her role as the Assistant Director of Academic Success.
