Career Services Specialist

Overview

The Career Services Specialist at Menlo College will support the College’s career services activities and newly created academic internship program. The Career Services Specialist will work directly with employers to identify internship and career opportunities for Menlo students and alumni. As part of the internship program team, the Career Services Specialist will coordinate and market career-related events on campus and support activities that help prepare students for their internship and career search.

Responsibilities

The Career Services Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating with employers for career fairs and tabling and educational events
  • Managing campus communications with regard to internship and career events
  • Developing internship and career-related content for Menlo’s weekly campus newsletter
  • Researching career resources and updating website content
  • Developing and executing a social media marketing strategy for the internship program and career services
  • Partnering with Menlo’s Advancement Office to reach out to alumni and support their career services needs
  • Working with the associate director of internships to maintain the College’s CareerLink database
  • Assisting the internship program team with researching potential internship partners and scheduling site development meetings
  • Assisting the internship program team with reviewing student resumes and cover letters
  • Collecting program-related metrics and creating reports
  • Other projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field. Master’s degree desirable
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in higher education, human resources, recruiting, marketing, counseling, or related fields
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to coordinate and track multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to build and maintain partnerships with a variety of employers
  • Experience with student advising highly desirable
  • Experience with providing feedback on resumes, cover letters, and interview skills highly desirable
  • Knowledge of Bay Area for-profit and non-profit organizations highly desirable
  • Social media marketing skills (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) highly desirable
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a complex environment

Work Schedule / Reporting Relationship

This position is full-time and eligible for benefits. The Career Services Specialist will report to the Director of Internships.
