Menlo College freshmen helped run the 5th Annual Redwood City Salsa Festival as part of their first year experience on September 29, 2012. Dr. Marilyn Thomas, Ph.D., Dean of Arts & Sciences and First Year Experience Coordinator, recruited the entire freshmen class for the event. This experience teaches first year students the importance of community service, which is a big part of the Menlo College curriculum. There were a total of 131 students working in five shifts: setting up, selling tickets, picking up trash, and assisting wherever they were needed.

“We want to let the local community know we’re here; we’re ready to serve,” said Marilyn Thomas. “And we’re grateful to have the opportunity to give back a little when we’ve been given so much.”
