Silicon Valley Bank Kicks off The Ethics in Action Speaker Series Web Master | September 27, 2013 By Vicky Schultz On Tuesday, September 24th Katherine McLain from the Silicon Valley Bank visited Menlo as the first speaker of this semester’s Ethics in Action Speaker Series. Ms. McLain shared her business experiences with students from Dr. Leslie Sekerka’s Business Ethics class, emphasizing concepts of self-reporting, risk management, individual values versus company values and the importance of social interaction. Students were also asked to solve an ethical dilemma to encourage ethical thinking and decision-making. “I appreciate contributing to the classroom environment with my real-life experiences.” said McLain. “It is important to get the perspective from others to help decision-making and realize the impact your decisions have on others.” The Ethics in Action Speaker Series, which is sponsored by the Ethics In Action Club, will continue with a versatile group of speakers this semester. The professional line up includes executive presentations from prominent companies including Yahoo!, Advanced Micro Devices, Ernst & Young, Vodafone, and Healthcare South. This semester’s series also features acclaimed executive coach and former NFL star Johnnie Johnson. Mr. Johnson will address the Menlo Community on October 16, at 7:30 pm in the Menlo Dining Hall (High School side).
