As we approach 2013 and the Spring Semester, we look back at the Fall 2012 and its most memorable moments. Menlo College stages an emergency preparedness drill rehearsal. The annual Academic Success Celebration features Mike Liguori ’11, recent graduate and founder of the Operation Work Warriors, as a special guest. Menlo College holds its annual Constitution Day celebration with a guest appearance from Kirsten Keith, the Mayor of Menlo Park. The Gay Straight Alliance put on several events and activities for Ally Week. Menlo College brought together several generations of alumni from all over the world to celebrate its achievements since its inception in 1927 during the All-Alumni Reunion. Professional breakfast kicked off the 85th Anniversary celebration at Homecoming Weekend on October 19, 2012. For the first time in the history of the annual Señor Carlos López Memorial Soccer Tournament women took part in the game. The Menlo College Student Government Association put on the Club Hollywood themed homecoming dance. Gabe Kubanda and Lost In Atlantis performed at Menlo College on September 20, 2012. One of the high points of the evening was the exclusive “Glow in the Dark” light show by the band Lost In Atlantis. The Horror Horror Film Club and the volunteers put on a fun and scary haunted house for Halloween. “Our student leaders are the lifeblood of the College,” ~Jessie Guilliot, Associate Dean of Student Affairs. For the first time since 2007-08, women’s basketball team cracks the nation's Top 25 with a perfect 10-0 record, securing the No. 24 spot in NAIA National Poll. The S.E.R.V. coordinators put on the International Week of Peace. Menlo College Rotaract Club held the 2nd Annual Hunger Banquet on November 8. Ron Kovas, the owner and principal at Venture Management Partners, who also teaches Marketing at Menlo, presented at the Annual SBA Day on November 14. SBA Day featured seven concurrent breakout sessions regarding current topics ranging from sports management, to the impact of recent presidential elections on investors and wage earners. SBA Day concluded with the presentations of the five Mini-Business Plan Competition finalists. QuickConnect won the first prize for creating an app that would allow users to take a picture of a person’s receipt and then import relevant data into QuickBooks and Quicken. Menlo College Football displays tremendous success as four seniors get selected to play in 2012 All-American Bowl: Robert Adan, Devon Jonsson, Greig O’Connor, and Matthias Pelesasa. Five Menlo football players garnered spots on the 2012 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete list: seniors Robert Adan, Marc Baker, and Devon Jonsson, along with juniors Michele Canali and Robert Gehre. “It is our hope that you will make your next set of dreams a reality and that your life is filled with happiness, health, and much prosperity.” ~Provost James W.
