The Light Green team beat out six other teams to win the “best video” award in the 2011 Freshman Video Challenge. The videos, which were created by freshman as part of their first year experience curriculum, were aired Wednesday evening in the Brawner Pit. The winning video was selected by a panel of judges that included Jessie Guilliot, Director of Housing, Becca Knopf, Resident Director, and Adam Montez, Resident Life Coordinator.

“Every semester we organize an activity that helps students get to know one another,” said Marilyn Thomas, Ph.D., Dean of Arts & Sciences and First Year Experience Coordinator. “This year we decided that since issues are unavoidable, we would let students work in teams to talk about and solve some of them in a creative way.”

All freshmen were divided into teams and assigned to create a YouTube video in which they deal with an issue of campus life. Each video had to incorporate a script, music, actors, and a setting. The team that created the winning video will receive a free dinner with Thomas, at a local restaurant.
