Six Menlo College students recently received scholarship awards from California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA), Silicon Valley Chapter, for showing the most potential as future CPAs. Sharon Selleck, past president of CalCPA and current member of the Accounting Advisory Board at Menlo, presented the awards to Anthony Bernard, Jeff Graby, Chris Myrdal, Jordan Schiffler, Sidra Iqbal, and Tania Sandoval.
"This is a group of our top students in accounting major. Many of them have already secured full time jobs," said Donna Little, Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance at Menlo. "It’s exciting to see where these scholarships might lead them."
Each year for almost a decade, Menlo students have received CalCPA scholarships, which usually range from $250 to $2,000. Decision to grant an award is based on three factors: the student’s GPA, community service, and an essay.
The awards ceremony also featured Menlo alumnus Bradley Away ’06 of Burr Pilger Mayer Inc., who received the first annual Young and Emerging Professional of the Year Award from Loretta Doon, CalCPA CEO and member of SBA Advisory Board at Menlo. Awaya is also a former CalCPA scholarship receiver and a Trustee’s Award winner.
