Six Menlo College students were recently recognized for showing the most potential as future CPAs and awarded scholarships from the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA), Silicon Valley Chapter. Scholarships were granted to students showing high academic achievement, campus leadership, and community involvement, as well as those expressing a strong interest in pursuing a career in accounting. Scholarship recipients will also get the opportunity to build their business network through invites to various networking events and office visits in the Bay Area.
“Accountants have a tradition of helping others,” said Donna Little, founding Director of the Menlo College Center for Financial Literacy. “This is just one way that the local chapter reaches out to local campuses. Many of the winning students are active on campus through athletics, government, clubs, and tutoring and are great examples of dedication and commitment. We are very proud of them!”
"I feel honored to have won the scholarship and I appreciate all the support we have from the accounting staff who encouraged us to apply for the scholarship," said Nicole Larson, one of the students who received the CalCPA scholarship. "I am excited for my career as an accountant!"
The entire Menlo College accounting faculty attended a congratulatory dinner on October 29 at Coyote Point Golf Club to honor this year’s winners—Tylar Clarke, Monica Fein, Robert Gehre, Travis Gorzalka, Nicole Larson, and Casey Showalter.
