April 26, 2013:

Students of Menlo College’s Student Investment Fund class, accompanied by Professor Ran Lu-Andrews, attended the thirteenth RISE conference for student investment fund managers during April.  Held April 4 to 6, 2013, in Dayton, Ohio, RISE 13 featured presidents and CEOs from prominent firms in the industry, such as Ariel Investments, BlackRock, TD Ameritrade, and TIAA-CREF. The chief investment strategists and chief economists from firms such as Barclays, Charles Schwab, Federated Investors, Mesirow Financial, Oppenheimer, and The Street served as panelists. Representatives from Barron's, Bloomberg, CNBC, FOX Business, and other financial media were also in attendance.  RISE 13 featured a "Federal Reserve Presidents Panel," a first for the conference, which was attended by the presidents of the Atlanta and Chicago Federal Reserve Banks.

Students enrolled in Menlo College’s Student Investment Fund class, offered every semester by the finance department, are trained to manage portfolios of securities during the term and report their results at the end of the term.  The educational field trip to Dayton was supported and fully funded by Academic Affairs.
