Plein Air Art Reception
June 9, 2011:
Monday, October 25, 2010
The Menlo College Art Committee is proud to announce the opening of Images of Menlo: Works by Plein Air Artists. This art collection features the works of 10 local plein air artists, including members of our own campus community.
Plein Air art is created outside rather than in a studio. The term comes from the French en plein air, meaning 'in the open air'. In the mid-19th century working in natural light became important for Impressionist painters such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The popularity of outdoor painting has endured into the 21st century.
Artists participating in Images of Menlo include:
Joanne Baciocco, Edwin Bertolet, Nina Bricker, Susane Elwart Hall, Nicole Keating, Lisette Lugo, Michael Pauker, Cynthia Riordan, Colleen Sullivan, and Dan Trimbath. Students from Artist-in-Residence Michael Pauker's drawing classes are also participating in the show.
The exhibit will run from October 25, 2010 to January 14, 2011 in the Administration building. The opening reception will be held on Wednesday, October 27 from 5-7 PM in the Administration Building. All are invited to attend!
The show was organized by the Menlo College Art Committee who invited local artists to capture the natural beauty of our campus for all to enjoy.
