On Monday, November 4, 2013 the Menlo community came together to celebrate the academic achievements of students from the Spring 2013 semester who met the requirements for the Dean’s List. Also recognized were students from the Fall 2013 incoming class who received a GPA of 3.25 or above on their midterms.
“Menlo has given me more than just the ability to understand how to make financial statements, how to incorporate a company, and what laws startups need to follow—it has given me confidence… something that is truly invaluable,” said senior Divya Nag, one of the student speakers at the event. “You always hear about people saying ‘you need a competitive advantage.' Menlo is your competitive advantage.”
The celebration coincided with Diwali, a Hindu festival of lights, which takes place every year to celebrate the triumph of good over evil. To honor this occasion transfer student KumKum Pandey transformed the cafeteria into a spectacle of lights with the help of friends and family. Students and faculty were treated to a performance from traditional Hindu dancers as well as Indian cuisine.
“It was great fun, and a result of team effort: Yasmin Lambie-Simpson (Dean of Student Affairs), Sharyn Moore (Associate Dean of Student Affairs) and my coworkers put in a lot of hard work to make the event such a success,” commented senior Kumkum Pandey who helped organize the Academic Success Celebration. “We had a fitting theme to celebrate academic success—Diwali—the Indian festival of lights, which is usually associated with victory.”
