Menlo College held an Academic Success Celebration yesterday evening to recognize students from the incoming class who received all A’s and B’s, or a 3.25 GPA and above, on their midterms—criteria used to select students for the Dean’s List—and the Spring 2011 Dean’s List recipients. The event also recognized winners of the Innovation Challenge and the Louie Zamparini Portfolio Challenge, summer reading assignment all freshmen had do in the beginning of the school year.
"Academic Success Celebration puts a spotlight on the incoming class and acknowledges students for academic accomplishments," said Yasmin Lambie-Simpson, Dean of Academic Student Affairs. "This is also a unique opportunity for student speakers to share their academic journeys with peers."
The event featured three speakers—senior Corie Thompson, junior Katrina Smith, and sophomore Andrew Vargas—all on Dean’s List. These hard working students represent diversity and excellence among Menlo’s student body. They talked about their sources of inspiration and obstacles on the way to the top, and the ultimate satisfaction and self-confidence their achievements brought them.
