Casey Showalter ‘15

April 8, 2014:

Casey Showalter ‘15 has been selected as the 2014 CalCPA Campus Ambassador for Menlo College. CalCPA, a professional accounting advocacy organization established the ambassador program as a means for students to share events, career resources and scholarship opportunities with their peers. Menlo College began participating in the program last year with John Schott ’14 as their representative.

Casey is a third-base softball player from Los Gatos who transferred to Menlo from DeAnza College. “This is a way I can give back to Menlo College and honor the accounting professors who have helped me so much,” said Casey. She is appreciative of the help she has received along the way from Professors Janis Zaima, Donna Little, Ken Leong, Jack Klingler, Ken Fowler, and Daniel Jung.

“As Chair of the Peninsula Silicon Valley CalCPA Educators Committee, I appreciate the opportunities that CalCPA affords our students,” said Donna Little, Associate Professor of Accounting at Menlo. “In addition to the annual scholarship program, free CalCPA student memberships and networking events, the Campus Ambassador program provides opportunities for top students like Casey to meet student leaders at outstanding accounting programs throughout the state, and travel to Sacramento to participate in CPA Day activities.”

As Campus Ambassador, Casey puts on two events and she advocates registration in accounting. “I help prospective accounting students understand what accounting offers, and by networking, I can help make their academic experience more comfortable,” said Casey. One of her events included a speaking engagement at College of San Mateo. The other accounting event is scheduled for Fall 2014. She also points students to the CPA website for tools, links, and program tips for CPA exams.

She will graduate in Fall 2015, when she completes the 150 units of study required in order to qualify for licensure as a CPA in California. In summer 2013, she interviewed and was accepted for a summer internship in 2014 with a regional certified public accounting firm, Frank Rimerman who have offices in Palo Alto, San Francisco, and San Jose.

Applicants for the Campus Ambassador program can apply to the CalCPA website http://www.calcpa.org by submitting an online application and essay.
