Accounting Students Meet with Recent Menlo Graduates
May 9, 2013:
Accounting professors Ken Leong, Donna Little and Jack Klingler hosted an accounting “reunion” dinner on Friday, May 3 at Trellis’ Restaurant in Menlo Park. The dinner was attended by recent Menlo accounting graduates and some of Menlo’s top accounting majors. Joining the professors and the Menlo students were Chris Myrdal of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Sam Dodge of Ernst & Young, Sidra Iqbal of KPMG and Paul Gonzales of Moss Adams. In addition to renewing “not that old” acquaintances, the Menlo students enjoyed hearing what the working world was like and what skill sets are critical for success. Chris Myrdal pointed out that “90% of my job as an auditor is writing” and stressed how important it is to develop good writing skills in college. Sidra Iqbal discussed how important it is to immediately develop good working relationships with everyone in the office. All mentioned the importance of asking questions to move up the learning curve as quick as possible.
“It was a very enjoyable evening and it was great to see our successful graduates and have them share their experiences with our current students”, said Professor Leong. Current accounting major Corona Beck commented “it was probably the best accounting event I attended this year”.
Three more Menlo accounting majors (Anthony Bernard, Coleman Cox and Jordan Shiffler) will be Joining Ernst & Young with permanent positions upon graduation. In addition, four students have internships at Frank Rimerman (Aleema Iqbal and Jace Weaver), Hemming Morse (Devon Jonsson) and Deloitte (John Schott).
