Outside the Box, Inside the Frame Art Exhibition

Menlo College presents its inaugural program to bring art exhibits to campus with "Outside the Box, Inside the Frame." This exhibition, which will be on view in the Administration Building from Monday, April 21, through May 12, 2008 features six local artists, who will address the transformation of simple materials and images into poetic works of art.

Sharon Chinen and Katrine Hildebrandt manipulate natural and manmade objects into sculptural installations of delicate grace. Peter Foley creates a vivid sense of place out his photographs of dank and dismal locations. Robin McCloskey's complex prints, which combine elements of digital photography with traditional printmaking processes, involve researching and reacting to the Bay Area landscape. Nancy White's work addresses tiny but crucial differences in color and scale. Michael Pauker paints on leaves of 19th Century Japanese ledgers, and lets his marks and the original written characters merge to form complex landscapes. An Opening Reception including a brief talk by the artists will take place on Thursday, April 24, 5-7pm.
