Bowman Library

History of Bowman Library
The first permanent building of Menlo College was the Commons (dining rooms and kitchen), which opened in 1948. The original Library was established in the building that today houses the Administration Building.

The new Commons (dining hall) was completed in 1962 and the old Commons was converted into the Library for the School and College. This conversion was made possible by the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. John Bowman. The Bowman Library was named in memory of their son, Timothy Dillon Bowman. Timothy attended Menlo College from September 1955 until May 27, 1956, when he died in an automobile accident.
In 1994, Menlo School and Menlo College began the process of separation into two, distinct institutions. With the split, the Library's collection was divided between both the School and College. Those items kept at the College were converted from the Dewey Decimal to the Library of Congress classification system. During this same period, a generous donation from Rosemary Hewlett made our present electronic catalog, (ROSIE) possible.
