Finding Periodicals in Bowman Library

Periodicals are publications that come out "periodically," or sequentially, in daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual or even irregular intervals. They include magazines, scholarly journals, trade journals, newspapers, yearbooks and other sources.

Periodical formats available at Bowman Library

Bowman Library provides access to periodicals in several ways: in print, electronically and through interlibrary loan.

Print
Bowman Library subscribes to over 144 magazines, journals and newspapers in print. The current year’s issues are located in the Library’s main room on the wall next to the New Book Shelf. The periodicals are arranged in alphabetical order by title. Older back issues are kept in storage and may be requested at the Circulation Desk.

Electronic periodicals
The Library also subscribes to a variety of Research Databases that provide electronic access, often in full text, to 12,560 unique titles.

Finding Periodicals

The Library has available, online, a list of all print and electronic full-text periodicals available through its resources. This list indicates whether a periodical is available in a print copy (in Menlo College’s Print Holdings) or electronically, indicating the Research Database(s) through which it is available. It also lists the holdings (dates covered) for each resource and provides hyperlinks to appropriate Research Database(s). The Periodical List is searchable by title and subject and is available via the E-Journal Title Search page.

Interlibrary Loan

If an article that’s important to your research is not available in Bowman Library or through one of its Research Databases, it can be ordered via Interlibrary Loan from another library in the area. Loan requests typically take two to four weeks to arrive so factor this into your research plans. To request an Interlibrary Loan, please fill out the online Periodical Article Request Form on the Interlibrary Loan page. A valid Menlo College ID and barcode number are required to process the request.
