I am using AOL and cannot connect?
At the present time you cannot access our research databases using the AOL browser. The one provided to you by AOL does not have all the functions you need to access our databases. You need to use a separate Web browser. Connect using AOL, then minimize AOL and open the separate browser. If you don't have a separate browser you may download a copy of Netscape (7.0 or higher recommended) or Internet Explorer. You can also get a copy of Netscape Navigator from AOL by entering Keyword: netscape, and following the downloading and installation directions. What are the PC system requirements to use the databases from off-campus?
A PC with at least 16 Megabytes of RAM (32MB RAM preferred) , Netscape version 4.7x or higher recommended, or Internet Explorer, a high-speed modem (at least 14.4 bps) or a LAN connection to the Internet, and cookies and javascript enabled on your browser. What are the Macintosh system requirements to use the databases from off-campus?
A Macintosh Quadra 650, PowerMac, G3 or iMac running Netscape Version 4.7 or higher or Explorer version 4.1 or higher, a high-speed modem (at least 14.4 BPS) or a LAN connection, and cookies and javascript enabled on your browser. What if I previously set up my browser as a proxy server? Do I need to disable it?
You may wish to disable the browser proxy settings, however, it is not necessary to do so. To disable the proxy settings on your browser, follow the instructions listed on the Off-Campus Access page.
Can I access the databases from off-campus if I am not currently enrolled in Menlo College?
No. In order to have an active patron record in ROSIE (the Library Catalog), you must be a current student, staff or faculty of Menlo College. How can I get off-campus (remote) access to the Research Databases?
Click on the link to the database you wish to search from either the Major Database list on the Library's main page or from the Library's Research Databases by Title page. Once you make your selection, a window will appear and you will be asked to type in your name and barcode number. Please note, in order to access the databases from off-campus, you must have an active patron record in ROSIE (the Library Catalog) and the information you type must match the information in your record.Where can I get a barcode number?
Your barcode number is on the back of your Menlo Identification Card. If you do not have a current Menlo College ID Card, you must go to the Student Union during their regular hours to have a photo taken and an ID issued. How do I know if I have an active patron record in ROSIE?
A quick way to tell if you have an active patron record in ROSIE (the Library Catalog) is to try to access your library record via ROSIE. From the main page, select "My Account/Renew Books" and enter your name and barcode number. If you are unable to access your record, then either your record is not active or the information you are typing does not match your record. What if I enter my name and barcode and nothing happens or I get a blank screen? What do I do?
You need to enable Cookies and Java in your browser setup. In Netscape this can be found under Edit, then click on Preferences, then Advanced and accept all cookies. You should also enable Javascript at the same time if it is not already enabled. In Internet Explorer, Cookies can be found under Tools, then click on Internet Options, then the Security tab, highlight the Internet globe icon and click Custom. When you scroll down you will find Cookies. If your settings are on high then Cookies and Java are disabled. Use medium security settings. What if I enter my name and barcode and I get a message that my record cannot be located?
There are several reasons why your record may not be located in ROSIE (the Library Catalog):1) Your record is not active - In order to have an active record in the ROSIE, you must be a current student, staff or faculty of Menlo College.2) The barcode on your ID card does not match the barcode in your record - If you do not have a current Menlo college ID Card, your barcode number may not match the number provided to the Library. Please go to the Student Union to have aphot taken and a current ID card issued, then go to the Library Circulation Desk to verify that the Library has your ID in ROSIE.3) The name you are typing does not match your name in your patron record -- For some reason your name is not in ROSIE as you are typing it. A different variation of your name, other than what is listed on your ID card, may have been entered in ROSIE, or it may simply be a typographical error in the data received by the Library. If you suspect any of the above problems, please call the Library circulation desk at 650-543-3825 for assistance.I get a message like "All Ports in Use" or "Maximum number of sessions in use" when I click on a database and I don't get into the database. What happened?
Some of the products we offer have limited capacity to host a large number of sessions. If too many people are using the databases at the same time, then anyone attempting to access the database is turned away. Please try again later, when fewer people are using the database you need to access.
