Victor Rico-Gutierrez ’09 – A Passion for Sports

Victor’s love of sports brought him from Mexico to Menlo College to join our soccer team. He soon excelled in and out of the classroom taking advantage of all the opportunities around him. Today, Victor’s describes himself as “passionate about technology and sports.”

Leadership and Involvement

Menlo College is small and the leadership opportunities are great. Victor wasted no time getting involved with student government, clubs and housing. While working as a Resident Assistant, being a member of the Men’s Soccer Team, and going to classes, he also found the time to be active in Student Government. All these experiences prepared him for his internship and a career.

From the Classroom to the Job

Upon graduation, the San Jose Earthquakes, a local major league soccer team, offered Victor an entry-level position as an Inside Ticket Sales Representative. Staying motivated was not hard for him because he was surrounded by great people. After three months of encouraging soccer fanatics of the Bay Area to come to home matches, he was given the opportunity to get involved in the international match between Mexico National team and Bolivia in San Francisco.

From sports, to media, to sales, Victor has been successful in growing his career. He recently returned to Mexico and joined Sales4StartUps, a sales training, education, and consulting organization for start-up technology companies. Victor is Lead Mentor for Mexico and Central America and facilitates discussion between entrepreneurs who share their insights around the topic of sales.

Small School, Big Opportunities

“My education at Menlo shaped me to become a professional in the industry that I am most passionate about. I look forward to taking an active role in alumni events. My advice to students is to follow your passion and stay motivated. Your hard work will always be acknowledged and rewarded.”
