Teodor Vacev ’04 – From Business to Commercial Real Estate

Teodor came to Menlo as an international student from Bulgaria to study Business Management. In addition to taking classes, he worked in our Development Office as a student caller, honing his communication skills and learning how to build relationships with Alumni and friends of Menlo College. Teodor is currently working for Marcus & Millichap where through his intelligence and hard work he has continued to advance in this career. He underwrites contracts, creates marketing materials, and contacts potential buyers, customers, and agents that work for the brokerage.

From the Classroom to Career

In Teodor’s senior year, Jack McDonough, Professor of Management, helped him obtain an internship with CB Richard Ellis (CBRE), a prominent commercial real estate company. After performing well in his internship, Teodor was offered a job following graduation. A year later, Teodor joined Marcus & Millichap in Palo Alto.

Teodor began his career with an internship and encourages all students interested in real estate to do likewise. “I suggest you do an internship with a developer, brokerage, or property management firm,” said Teodor. “Any one of them can give you a good idea of what you want to do. It is important to understand that real estate involves many different areas, from development and investments to commercial and residential. You can get into the real estate industry through different paths.”

Staying Connected

Students interested in a career in real estate are encouraged to network with Teodor at campus events. He returns to the Silicon Valley’s business school frequently to share his knowledge of real estate and making the transition between college and the work. He was a panelist for our 85th Anniversary Business Showcase panel on Real Estate.

Small School, Big Opportunities

Teodor appreciates the small school environment of Menlo College, especially with the opportunity to work closely with faculty. Menlo helped him make the transition from an international student to a confident and accomplished professional in the United States.
