Joy Branford ’05 – From Menlo to Strategic Business Partner

Joy’s route to graduation was not easy. Originally from a small Caribbean island, she encountered many obstacles. But through persistence and resilience she met those challenges to graduate from Menlo in 2005 with a concentration in Human Resources. Today she is a strategic partner to several business units. She drives HR initiatives that sustain key business requirements and align with the organization’s short- and long-term business objectives. Some of these initiatives include workforce planning, training and development, performance management, compensation, engagement and employee relations.

Leadership and Menlo Involvement
Joy has been active in the Menlo College alumni community, participating in networking events and in the Alumni Association. As a guest speaker for our Women’s Club, Joy expressed her gratitude to the school and the professors who helped her find her way and acted as mentors.

From the Classroom to the Job

Joy’s can-do attitude helped Joy to be successful at Menlo. She was on the Dean’s List each semester. She went on to pursue her Master’s degree in Human Resources and graduated with honors in 2008. She continued her professional development by earning certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) from the Society of Human Resources, the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management.

Small School, Big Opportunities

Joy acknowledges all the support she received from her Menlo professors. “If I was having a rough time with work, I could talk to my professors. They were so accessible.” She credits Menlo with teaching her skills that are directly applicable to what she does in her job.
