Why is Menlo College using Google as a service provider?
Menlo College's alumni email service is hosted by Google. We strive to provide the best service possible to our alumni. The Google system offers great new features including an indexed search, enhanced spam filtering, tagging capabilities for tracking emails, and an expanded 7-gigabyte storage capacity.
How do I start using my new account?
The first time you visit the alumni email system you may begin using your new account. Go to the alumni email web page to view instructions and log in to your new account: http://www.menlo.edu/alumni/email
Your username and temporary password were emailed and/or mailed to you. If you need to request your username and temporary password, please contact information@alumni.menlo.edu and include your full name (while attending Menlo) and your class year. A team member will respond to your request. Using your username and temporary password, you can log in and begin to use your email account. The first time you log in you will need to accept Google's Terms of Agreement. After that you are ready to send and receive mail.
Will my email address change?
Alumni who held alumni email accounts prior to 2010 will retain their usernames. New subscribers will be assigned an email address based on a combination of their first and last names and graduation year.
How do I forward my alumni mail to my personal email account?
To have your new alumni email forwarded to your personal email account, select "Settings" and "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" to set your preferences. Remember to click "Save Changes" when you are finished. If you previously had your email forwarding set up, you will need to set it up again in the new alumni email system to have the same service.
If I have a question about my alumni email whom can I contact?
Google provides great online support for this service. If you have a question that isn't addressed, please contact an Alumni Relations team member at information@alumni.menlo.edu.
How do I access my alumni email?
Log in to the Menlo College alumni email web page: http://www.menlo.edu/alumni/email
I already have a gmail account, do I still need the alumni email?
Yes, your alumni email is not the same account as a gmail account. You still need your alumni email account to receive official notices from the College.
Where can I learn more about using the email system powered by Google?
View Google's tour to learn how to send and receive messages. After you begin using your new account, review the "Switching Guide" inside the new email system for more information on getting started with Google email.
Will there be advertising inside my new email account?
No. You will not receive ads inside your new email. You may select to receive RSS news feeds along the top bar of the message window, or choose to turn off this feature under "Settings," "Web Clips."
Can I use other Google applications such as Calendar and Docs with my alumni email account?
You may use the Calendar and Docs features with your alumni email. Other Google applications, including Google Groups, may be added to the alumni email service in the future.
Where can I get support for the Calendar and Docs features?
Google offers support for Calendar.
How do I access my messages from other email programs using IMAP/POP?
You can access your new alumni email account from other email programs. Google offers instructions for alumni email account access through IMAP. Both are enabled under Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
What if I don't want the alumni email service?
It's not necessary to use the alumni email service, however it makes it easier for you to check your official messages from the college. It also provides you with a lifelong email address that can be forwarded to another account at your convenience.
