Center for Financial Literacy

Professor Donna Little and students in the LIFT program.

As the economy continues to strain budgets and deplete educational resources, a lack of financial literacy in all walks of life has surfaced as a serious educational challenge. To address this dilemma, the Center for Financial Literacy seeks to become a preeminent center in the United States for promoting financial competency among individuals and families. The Center will develop and transmit programs aimed at ensuring that individuals have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to make sound financial decisions in their everyday lives. The Center will serve as a model for programs targeted to developing financial competencies.

Citi, in partnership with Menlo College, Silicon Valley's Business School, is pleased to announce the launch of its groundbreaking, new financial literacy pilot program,

LEARN AND INVEST FOR TOMORROW
Essential financial choices in college

With generous funding from Citi, Menlo College President Dr. G. Timothy Haight, with Sequoia Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Patrick Gemma, will establish a model for teaching essential financial management skills to select freshman at Menlo College in Atherton, CA and primarily underserved seniors from Woodside High School in Woodside, CA.

Pilot coursework and assessment will be an outreach program of the College's new Center for Financial Literacy, and will be spearheaded and taught by Associate Professor Donna Little in collaboration with Citi financial executives. The LIFT initiative will be designed for future replication in high schools and community colleges as timely and valuable curriculum enhancement, teaching students what they need to know to make good financial choices in their lives.
